Thing 1: Blogs & Blogging

Time to catch up! As a self-confessed nerd, I am no stranger to blogs or blogging. I read a lot of blogs for both professional and recreational reasons, and have used blogs in project planning as a trainee, and later in my MSc and the Oxford 23 things programme. They can be a useful way of documenting what you're doing as you're doing it, allowing you to go back over your posts at the end of a project and see how you've progressed.
I'm taking part in this project partly out of personal interest, but also because I happen to be starting my dissertation at the moment, and the topic is all about using web 2.0 technology to enhance cpd for librarians. If you do a cursory search of major LIS databases or journals, you'll notice that there are lots of articles about using web 2.0 in libraries to maintain contact with your readers and enhance library services, but not all that much about how to use it for staff training. The corporate world have been using it for years, why not us?

Thing 2:Other people's blogs

After a busy week last week with the BIALL exchange and various other jobs going on at the same time, I am now having to play catch up. After looking at other librarians' blogs I feel that I definitely need to up my game! It's been interesting to read about other people's take on the cpd23 idea, particularly since I am embarking on a dissertation based around the use of web 2.0 for cpd purposes.
I was intrigued by http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif, particularly her guide to craft blogging. When I'm not working at the Bodleian Law Library in Oxford, or working on my MSc, you'll find me happily making jewellery, knitting or sewing. I agree with her that it can be difficult to maintain enthusiasm for a blog, especially when you have other demands on your time, which is why it's handy to have it linked to a specific project like this one.
On a similar theme, Elisabeth's blog Simple things to make and do is a mine of useful information, not just about blogging but also about crafts and cake (one of my other favourite things!).
